About Aquarium de Lyon
On the banks of the Rhône at La Mulatière, just south of Lyon, the Aquarium de Lyon plunges visitors into the underwater worlds of the planet, from the rivers of Europe to the coral seas of the tropics. Opened in 2002, its darkened galleries lead past dozens of tanks teeming with thousands of fish — shimmering shoals, moray eels, seahorses, venomous lionfish and the vivid inhabitants of a living reef — building to the highlight, a great shark tank crossed by a viewing tunnel where visitors stand surrounded by circling predators. Touch pools and clear, family-friendly displays make it especially popular with children. Compact, colourful and easy to reach at the confluence of Lyon's two rivers, the Aquarium de Lyon is a lively and educational escape into the life of the seas.
