About Océanopolis
One of the great ocean-discovery centres in Europe, Océanopolis in Brest is far more than an aquarium — it is a vast scientific park devoted to the seas of the world, opened in 1990 on the shore of the great harbour of Brest. Its three great pavilions immerse visitors in three ocean realms: a polar world where real penguins and seals swim beneath simulated Antarctic light, a steamy tropical pavilion built around a living coral reef and its sharks, and a temperate pavilion celebrating the rich, cold waters of Brittany itself. With enormous tanks, touch pools, seabird colonies and cutting-edge exhibits fed by the neighbouring research institutes, Océanopolis is both a superb family day out and a serious centre of marine science. Immersive, educational and world-class, it is the jewel of maritime Brest.
