About Château d'Anet

In the Eure-et-Loir, on the borders of Normandy, the Château d'Anet is a masterpiece of the French Renaissance, built for Diane de Poitiers, the celebrated mistress of King Henri II, by the great architect Philibert Delorme. One of the most refined creations of its age, the château was adorned by the finest artists of the 16th century, and though partly demolished after the Revolution, it preserves superb surviving parts — its magnificent entrance frontispiece, an exquisite chapel and elegant rooms — that testify to its former splendour. Set in a fine park, it evokes the sophistication and intrigue of the court of the Valois kings. Elegant, refined and historically fascinating, the Château d'Anet offers a superb glimpse of Renaissance art and the world of Diane de Poitiers, a delightful heritage stop in the countryside west of Paris.
