About Château de Bourdeilles
Château de Bourdeilles is a castle located in the town of Bourdeilles in the Dordogne department of southwestern France. The castle is composed of two main parts: the first is a fortress dating back to the 13th century, and the second is a Renaissance-style palace that was built in the 16th century. The fortress was originally built in the 13th century by the Barons of Bourdeilles to protect the town from English invaders during the Hundred Years' War. The fortress features a square keep, walls with crenelations, and a large round tower that was used as a lookout. In the 16th century, the castle was acquired by the Mareuil family who transformed it into a Renaissance palace. They added a large gallery, a chapel, and decorated the walls with frescoes. The Mareuil family also added a beautiful garden with a maze. Today, the castle is open to the public for guided tours. Visitors can explore the medieval fortress and the Renaissance palace, as well as the beautiful gardens. The castle also hosts cultural events such as concerts and exhibitions.
