About Château de Candé

Near Tours, at Monts in the Indre-et-Loire, the Château de Candé is an elegant château that gained worldwide fame in 1937 as the place where Wallis Simpson married the Duke of Windsor — the former King Edward VIII, who had abdicated the British throne to marry her. Rebuilt around 1900 in a refined blend of styles and equipped with every modern comfort of its day, the château preserves the atmosphere of that glamorous era, with beautiful interiors, a famous organ and a fine park. Its story adds a touch of royal romance to a visit. Elegant, historic and steeped in the drama of one of the 20th century's great love stories, the Château de Candé offers a charming and unusual glimpse of early-20th-century life and a famous royal wedding, a rewarding heritage stop in the château country near Tours.
