About Château de Carneville
Château de Carneville is a castle located in the commune of Carneville in Normandy, France. The castle was built in the 14th century and was subsequently destroyed during the Hundred Years War before being rebuilt in the 15th century. The castle is known for its imposing keep, which dates back to the 14th century and is the oldest part of the structure. The keep is four stories high and features an octagonal tower at its corner. The rest of the castle was built during the 15th century and features Renaissance architecture, including a large entrance hall with a fireplace and an ornate staircase. During the French Revolution, the castle was seized and sold as a national asset. It subsequently fell into disrepair until it was purchased in the 19th century by the Dupont family, who restored it to its former glory. Today, the castle remains privately owned and is not open to the public. However, visitors can admire its exterior from the road and nearby hiking trails.
