About Château de Courson

The Château de Courson is a French castle located in the commune of Courson-Monteloup in the department of Essonne and the Île-de-France region. Built in the 17th century, it was the residence of several French notables before being acquired by the municipality in the 20th century. The castle was originally built by the financier Antoine Coëffier de Ruzé, Marquis d'Effiat, and was completed by his widow, Anne de Souvré. Its architecture is marked by the French classical style and its gardens, designed by André Le Nôtre, are listed as remarkable gardens of France. During the 18th century, the castle belonged to the noble family of Montmorency-Laval. After the French Revolution, the property was sold to several private individuals before being acquired by the municipality in 1951. Today, the castle is open to the public and hosts various cultural events throughout the year, including exhibitions, concerts, and theater performances. The castle and its gardens are also available for private events, such as weddings or corporate events. Visitors can enjoy guided tours of the castle and its grounds, as well as explore the gardens and the park. The castle is also known for its restaurant, which offers gourmet cuisine in a refined setting.
