About Château de Dampierre
Château de Dampierre is a French château located in the municipality of Dampierre-en-Yvelines in the department of Yvelines, in the Île-de-France region. The château was built between 1675 and 1683 for Jules Hardouin-Mansart, the leading architect of his time, for the financier Paul Poisson de Bourvallais. It was acquired in 1715 by Louis, Duke of Penthièvre, and then passed through various noble families before being acquired by the French state in 1828. The château has a classic French Baroque architecture and is surrounded by a large English-style park with a canal. The interior features ornate furnishings and decoration, including paintings by François Boucher and Jean-Baptiste Oudry. The chapel is notable for its fine Rococo decoration. Château de Dampierre has been classified as a monument historique since 1926 and is open to the public for guided tours. The château and its grounds have also been used as a filming location for several movies, including the 2006 film Marie Antoinette directed by Sofia Coppola.
