About Château de Fénelon

In the Périgord Noir, overlooking the Dordogne valley, the Château de Fénelon is an imposing medieval fortress famous as the birthplace of François de Fénelon, the great 17th-century writer and archbishop, author of the celebrated Télémaque. Guarded by a triple ring of walls and towers and crowned with beautiful lauze-tiled roofs, this powerful castle rises majestically above the wooded countryside, its silhouette one of the most impressive in the region. Inside, richly furnished rooms and a fine collection evoke both its medieval past and the memory of Fénelon. From its terraces, superb views open over the Dordogne valley. Powerful, historic and beautifully preserved, the Château de Fénelon combines mighty medieval architecture with literary heritage, a rewarding stop among the many castles of the Périgord, a magnificent fortress in the heart of the beautiful Dordogne countryside.
