About Château de Ferrette

High above the little town of Ferrette in the Sundgau, at the southern tip of Alsace, the Château de Ferrette is a romantic castle ruin crowning a rocky crest, once the proud seat of the powerful counts of Ferrette who ruled this corner of the region for centuries. One of the oldest and most important castles of southern Alsace, its ruined walls and towers cling to the rock high above the town, and from its heights magnificent views sweep over the rolling hills of the Sundgau toward the Jura and, on a clear day, the Alps. Reached by a short climb from the picturesque town, the ruins are atmospheric and superbly sited. Romantic, historic and offering breathtaking views, the Château de Ferrette is a rewarding stop in the beautiful Sundgau, a proud reminder of the medieval counts who once ruled the southern gateway of Alsace.
