About Château de Gombervaux

Château de Gombervaux is a medieval castle located in the small village of Vaucouleurs in the Lorraine region of France. It was built in the 13th century by a noble family, the Gombervaux, to protect their lands from outside invaders. The castle has a square-shaped keep with walls up to 12 meters high and a round tower at each corner. The entrance to the castle is through a gatehouse protected by a drawbridge. The castle also has a chapel that dates back to the 14th century. Over the years, the castle changed hands several times, and it was occupied by both French and German troops during the two world wars. In the 1950s, the castle was in a state of disrepair and was on the verge of collapse. It was purchased by a private owner who began extensive restoration work to bring it back to its former glory. Today, the Château de Gombervaux is open to the public for guided tours, and visitors can explore the castle's medieval architecture, beautiful gardens, and historical artifacts. It is also a popular venue for weddings and other events.
