About Château de la Batisse

The Château de la Batisse is a castle located in the commune of Chanonat, in the department of Puy-de-Dôme, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in central France. It was built in the 13th century and has been classified as a historic monument since 1963. The castle was built on a rocky promontory overlooking the plain of Limagne. The original structure was a square tower with walls over 2 meters thick. Over the centuries, several additions and modifications were made, including the construction of a chapel in the 15th century and the addition of a large wing in the 17th century. In the 19th century, the castle was abandoned and fell into disrepair. It was only in the 20th century that it was restored by the architect and historian Émile Robert, who turned it into a museum. Today, visitors can explore the castle's various rooms, including the chapel, the guardroom, the kitchen, and the lord's room. The Château de la Batisse is now open to the public and hosts exhibitions, concerts, and other cultural events throughout the year. It is also a popular venue for weddings and other private events.
