About Château de La Garde-Guérin
Château de La Garde-Guérin is a medieval fortress located in the village of La Garde, in the Lozère department of France. It was built in the 13th century on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Chassezac River, and was used as a strategic military position during the Hundred Years' War. The castle was originally built as a rectangular tower, and was expanded over the years with additional buildings and walls. Today, the castle is in ruins, but visitors can still see the remains of the original tower, as well as the ramparts, the chapel, and the living quarters. The castle also has a well-preserved donjon, or keep, which was used as a lookout tower. In addition to the castle ruins, visitors to La Garde can explore the charming medieval village, which has retained much of its original character. There are several other historic buildings to visit in the village, including the 12th-century Romanesque church of Saint-Pierre, which features a distinctive octagonal bell tower. The village also hosts a popular summer festival that includes music, theater, and other cultural events.
