About Château de La Marthonie

Château de La Marthonie is a castle located in the commune of La Douze in the Dordogne department of France. The castle dates back to the 16th century and is a fine example of Renaissance architecture. It has been classified as a historical monument since 1951. The castle was originally built by the La Marthonie family, who were wealthy landowners in the region. Over the centuries, it changed hands several times and was eventually acquired by the Peyronnet family in the 19th century. The Peyronnets renovated the castle, adding a neo-Gothic style chapel and a large park. Today, the castle is privately owned and not open to the public. However, visitors can still admire its impressive façade and explore the beautiful park and gardens surrounding it. The park features a variety of tree species, including chestnut, oak, and lime, as well as several ponds and a small stream. The gardens are known for their geometric design and are home to numerous flowers, shrubs, and other plants.
