About Château de Laval
Château de Laval is a castle located in the city of Laval, in the Mayenne department of France. Built in the 11th century, the castle was originally a simple fortification, but it was gradually expanded and transformed over the centuries. In the 13th century, the castle was rebuilt by Guy VII de Laval, who added a keep, a chapel, and a gatehouse. During the 15th and 16th centuries, the castle was further expanded and transformed into a Renaissance-style château. The chapel was rebuilt in the flamboyant Gothic style, and a grand staircase was added to the entrance. In the 17th century, the castle was again remodeled, this time in the Baroque style, by the Marquis de la Vieuville. He added a grand entrance and a wing on the east side of the castle. Today, the Château de Laval is home to the Musée du Vieux-Château, which showcases the history of the castle and the city of Laval. Visitors can explore the castle's grand reception rooms, including the Gothic chapel and the ornate Louis XV salon. The castle also has a beautiful park and gardens, with a stunning view of the city and the surrounding countryside.
