About Château de Moncley

In the valley of the Ognon near Besançon, the Château de Moncley is a jewel of neoclassical architecture, one of the most elegant châteaux in Franche-Comté. Built in the late 18th century, it is famous for its graceful curved façade and its magnificent oval entrance hall lined with columns, a masterpiece of refined design on the eve of the Revolution. Set in a beautiful park above the river, still owned by the same family, the château preserves fine period interiors that evoke the taste and elegance of the age of Enlightenment. Elegant, harmonious and beautifully sited, the Château de Moncley is a superb example of French neoclassical architecture, a delightful heritage stop in the peaceful countryside near Besançon, offering a refined glimpse of aristocratic life in 18th-century Franche-Comté.
