About Château de Montaigut
On a rocky outcrop overlooking the countryside of the southern Aveyron, the Château de Montaigut is a fine restored medieval fortress that has watched over the surrounding valleys for a thousand years. Guarded by thick walls and towers, this ancient stronghold, one of the oldest in the region, has been lovingly restored over decades and now houses a museum devoted to the history, crafts and rural traditions of the Rouergue. From its heights, fine views open over the wild landscapes at the meeting of the Larzac and the Monts de Lacaune. Historic, atmospheric and beautifully sited, the Château de Montaigut offers both a superb piece of medieval architecture and a rich window onto the heritage of the Aveyron, a rewarding stop in the wild and beautiful countryside of southern Rouergue, a proud survivor of the feudal age.
