About Château de Montigny-sur-Aube

The Château de Montigny-sur-Aube is a castle located in the commune of Montigny-sur-Aube in the Côte-d'Or department of France. The castle dates back to the 15th century and was built by Jean de Vienne, who served as Admiral of France during the reigns of Charles V and Charles VI. The castle was later owned by the families of the Duke of Burgundy, the Marquis de Sade, and the Marquis de La Fayette. During the French Revolution, the castle was confiscated by the state and used as a prison. The castle was later returned to the La Fayette family, who sold it to a private owner in the 19th century. Today, the castle is a private residence and is not open to the public. The Château de Montigny-sur-Aube is known for its architectural style, which blends elements of Gothic and Renaissance design. The castle features a central keep, two towers, and a moat, as well as a large courtyard and gardens. Despite its historical significance, the castle is relatively unknown and receives few visitors.
