About Château de Rauzan

In the Entre-deux-Mers, in the vineyards east of Bordeaux, the Château de Rauzan is a fine medieval fortress built in the 13th century, when this region was under English rule during the Hundred Years' War. Guarded by a tall cylindrical keep and ringed by walls and towers, the castle rises picturesquely above the village, its Gothic and later features evoking the age of feudal lords and Anglo-Gascon rivalry. Restored and open to visitors, it can be explored for its towers, halls and history, and offers fine views over the surrounding wine country. Historic, picturesque and beautifully set among the vineyards of the Entre-deux-Mers, the Château de Rauzan is a rewarding stop for lovers of medieval architecture and the wines of Bordeaux, a fine piece of Gascon heritage in the gentle countryside east of the city.
