About Château de Rupt-sur-Saône

The Château de Rupt-sur-Saône is a castle located in the commune of Rupt-sur-Saône in the department of Haute-Saône, in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in eastern France. The castle was built in the 15th century by the lords of Rupt and underwent several renovations and additions in the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. The castle is situated on the banks of the Saône River and is surrounded by a moat. It has a rectangular layout and is flanked by four corner towers. The entrance is through a gatehouse that leads to a courtyard. The castle has a chapel, a great hall, and several other rooms. In the 19th century, the castle was abandoned and fell into disrepair. It was acquired by the municipality of Rupt-sur-Saône in the early 20th century, and restoration work was carried out in the 1980s and 1990s. Today, the castle is used as a cultural center and is open to the public for visits. The Château de Rupt-sur-Saône is a listed historic monument of France and is considered to be one of the most beautiful castles in the Haute-Saône department. Its picturesque setting and well-preserved architecture make it a popular tourist attraction in the region.
