About Château de Tonquédec
Château de Tonquédec is a medieval castle located in the commune of Tonquédec, in the department of Côtes-d'Armor in Brittany, France. The castle was built during the 15th century on the site of an older fortress and was expanded and modified over the centuries. The castle consists of a central keep, surrounded by a curtain wall with circular towers at each corner. The keep has four floors, and its walls are up to 3 meters thick. The castle's entrance is through a large gatehouse in the curtain wall, with a drawbridge and portcullis. During the 16th century, the castle was a center of Protestant resistance and was besieged and damaged by royalist forces during the Wars of Religion. The castle was subsequently abandoned and fell into ruins until the 20th century when it was acquired by the French government and underwent extensive restoration. Today, Château de Tonquédec is open to the public and visitors can explore the castle's keep and towers, as well as the courtyard and gardens. Guided tours are available, and the castle also hosts cultural events such as concerts and exhibitions.
