About Château de Vayres
On the banks of the Dordogne near Libourne, the Château de Vayres is a beautiful château whose history reaches back to the Middle Ages, though its present appearance owes much to elegant Renaissance and 17th-century rebuilding. Once a possession of the kings of England and later of Henri IV, it presents a harmonious façade overlooking magnificent formal French gardens that descend in terraces to the river. Inside, richly furnished rooms and a grand staircase evoke its noble past. The gardens, with their geometric parterres and river setting, are a highlight of any visit. Elegant, historic and beautifully sited above the Dordogne, the Château de Vayres combines fine Renaissance architecture with superb gardens, a delightful heritage stop in the vineyards of the Bordeaux region, close to the wine towns of Libourne and Saint-Émilion.
