About Château des Doyens
In the beautiful village of Carennac, one of the loveliest in the Lot, the Château des Doyens is a handsome Renaissance building that was once the residence of the deans of the priory to which the village owed its golden age. Rising beside the old priory and church, in a village famous for its association with the writer Fénelon, this fine château of pale stone with an elegant staircase and richly decorated rooms now houses a heritage interpretation centre devoted to the art and history of the Dordogne valley. Its beautiful painted ceiling is a highlight. Elegant, historic and beautifully set in a picture-perfect village on the banks of the Dordogne, the Château des Doyens offers a rewarding glimpse of Renaissance architecture and regional heritage, a charming stop in one of the most delightful villages of the Lot.
