About Château des Roches

Château des Roches is a castle located in the commune of Mazé-Milon, in the department of Maine-et-Loire in France. The castle was built in the 15th century and was later reworked in the 19th century. It is now a private property and is not open to the public. The castle is built on a promontory overlooking the Loire Valley, and it features a keep, a chapel, a gatehouse, a main building, and a large courtyard. The keep is the oldest part of the castle, and it is composed of three levels. The first two levels are vaulted, and the third level features a square room covered with a dome. The chapel of the castle was built in the 15th century and was dedicated to Saint George. It is a rectangular building with a nave, a choir, and a vaulted apse. The chapel features several stained-glass windows dating back to the 19th century. The castle was reworked in the 19th century by the architect René Hodé. He transformed the castle into a comfortable residence by adding a new wing to the main building and creating a French-style park with a pond and a greenhouse. Today, the castle is a private residence and is not open to the public. However, visitors can admire the castle from the outside and take a walk in the park.
