About Château d'Ételan

Château d'Ételan is a Renaissance château located in the Seine-Maritime department in Normandy, France. The castle was built in the 16th century on the banks of the Seine River by Jacques Le Pelletier, a wealthy financier who was the superintendent of finances for King Henri III. The château was designed in the Italian Renaissance style by architects Baptiste Androuet du Cerceau and Philibert Delorme. The castle is known for its beautiful facade, which features ornate carvings and sculptures, as well as its interior, which is decorated with 16th-century Flemish tapestries, antique furniture, and a collection of paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. The castle also has a large park and gardens, which were designed in the English style in the 19th century. After Jacques Le Pelletier died, the château was passed down through several noble families, including the Potier de Gesvres and the Comte de Morny. During World War II, the castle was used as a military hospital by the German army. In the 1950s, it was purchased by the French state and restored to its former glory. Today, the Château d'Ételan is open to the public and is a popular tourist attraction in Normandy. Visitors can take guided tours of the castle and gardens, and attend special events and exhibitions throughout the year. The castle also hosts weddings and other private events.
