About Château du Grand Jardin

Château du Grand Jardin is a castle located in the town of Joinville, in the Haute-Marne department of northeastern France. It was built between 1533 and 1546 by the Italian architect Giocondo Albertolli for the Count of Joinville, Claude de Lorraine, Duke of Guise. The castle is situated in a large park, which was designed by the renowned landscape architect André Le Nôtre. The park features a large lake and a wide variety of trees and plants. The interior of the castle has been restored and contains many original furnishings and decorations, including tapestries and paintings. The castle has a long and interesting history. During the French Revolution, it was used as a military barracks and later as a prison. It was also used as a hospital during World War I. In 1922, the castle was acquired by the town of Joinville and was restored to its former glory. Today, the castle is open to visitors and offers guided tours. It also hosts a variety of cultural events, such as concerts and exhibitions. The Château du Grand Jardin is considered one of the most beautiful Renaissance castles in France and is a popular tourist destination.
