About Château du Haut-Andlau
On a wooded crest of the Vosges above the wine village of Andlau in Alsace, the Château du Haut-Andlau is one of the best-preserved castle ruins in the region, its two tall round towers rising proudly above the forest. Built in the 14th century and long held by the noble Andlau family, this granite stronghold guarded the valley and its vineyards until it fell into ruin. Restored and cared for by volunteers, its towers, walls and great hall evoke the age of knights, and from its heights superb views open over the plain of Alsace and the vine-clad hills below. Romantic, historic and beautifully sited, the Château du Haut-Andlau is a rewarding stop on the castle trails of the Vosges, a fine medieval ruin above the vineyards of the Alsace Wine Route, close to its ruined neighbour the Spesbourg.
