About Château Ducal d'Uzès
In the heart of the beautiful town of Uzès in the Gard, the Duché is the ducal castle of the first duchy of France, still owned by the Crussol family who have held it for over a thousand years. This magnificent ensemble, dominated by the tall medieval Bermonde tower and enriched by a superb Renaissance façade, rises at the centre of the town like a small fortified palace. Inside, richly furnished rooms, cellars and a chapel evoke the long history of one of France's greatest noble houses, and the tower can be climbed for fine views over the honey-coloured rooftops of Uzès. Grand, historic and beautifully preserved, the Duché d'Uzès combines medieval fortress and Renaissance elegance in one remarkable monument, the proud heart of one of the loveliest towns of the Gard, close to the Pont du Gard and the treasures of Provence.
