About Domaine de la Garenne Lemot
The Domaine de la Garenne Lemot is a historic park located in the commune of Gétigné, in the Loire-Atlantique department of France. It was created in the early 19th century by a wealthy merchant named François-Frédéric Lemot. The park is situated along the Sèvre Nantaise River and spans 13 hectares. It features a variety of architectural and landscape elements, including a Gothic-style chapel, a 19th-century conservatory, a monumental staircase, a grotto, and a series of terraces with stunning views of the river and surrounding countryside. The park is also home to numerous sculptures, both antique and modern, which are integrated into the landscape. The main building of the park, the Château de Clisson, was originally built in the 13th century and later destroyed during the Wars of Religion in the 16th century. It was partially rebuilt in the 17th century, but was abandoned and fell into disrepair in the centuries that followed. In the early 19th century, Lemot purchased the property and began restoring the castle and creating the park. Today, the castle is open to visitors and hosts exhibitions and cultural events throughout the year. The Domaine de la Garenne Lemot is recognized as a national heritage site and is considered one of the finest examples of a romantic park in France. It is open to visitors year-round and offers guided tours and educational programs for visitors of all ages.
