About Fort d'Ambleteuse
The Fort d'Ambleteuse is a 17th-century coastal fortification located in the commune of Ambleteuse, in the Pas-de-Calais department of France. It was built by Vauban in 1680, during the reign of Louis XIV, to protect the coast from English invasion. The fort was designed to house a garrison of around 200 men and was equipped with artillery to defend the coast. It played a key role in the Franco-Dutch War and was later used during World War II by the German army as a base for their coastal defenses. Today, the fort is open to the public and serves as a museum showcasing its history and military architecture.
