About Moulin des Tours

Moulin des Tours is a historic windmill located in the town of Toul in northeastern France. It is known as one of the last remaining vestiges of the town's medieval fortifications. The mill was constructed in the 14th century and served as a watchtower, a grain mill, and a defense mechanism for the town. During the Hundred Years' War, the mill was an important strategic point for both the English and the French, and it was the scene of several battles. After the war, the mill became a customs post, and its towers were used as a prison. In the 19th century, the mill was converted into a residence, and it was restored in the early 20th century. Today, it is open to the public as a museum and cultural center, featuring exhibitions on the history of the mill and the town of Toul. Visitors can climb to the top of the mill's towers for panoramic views of the town and the surrounding countryside. The mill is also known for its association with the French writer Raymond Poincaré, who wrote about the mill in his memoirs.
