About Cathedral Saint-Gatien de Tours
In the heart of Tours, the Cathédrale Saint-Gatien is one of the loveliest Gothic cathedrals of the Loire valley, built over some three centuries so that it spans the whole evolution of the style, from early Gothic to the exuberant flamboyant of its richly carved west front, crowned by two towers with Renaissance tops. Its supreme treasure is its stained glass: the 13th-century windows of the choir form one of the most complete and radiant ensembles in France, glowing with deep blues and reds. A graceful Renaissance cloister, La Psalette, adjoins the church. Set among the old streets of the Vieux-Tours, close to the châteaux of the Loire, the cathedral is a masterpiece of light and stone. Luminous, richly historic and beautifully sited, Saint-Gatien is the crowning glory of Tours.
