About Cathedral Saint-Pierre de Lisieux

In the heart of Lisieux in Normandy, the Cathédrale Saint-Pierre is one of the earliest and finest Norman Gothic churches, built mostly in the late 12th and 13th centuries. Its harmonious grey stone facade, twin towers and soaring, luminous nave make it a beautiful example of the new Gothic style as it spread through Normandy. The cathedral holds a special place in history: it was here that the young Thérèse Martin — Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, one of the most beloved saints of modern times — worshipped as a child, and here too that Bishop Cauchon, who condemned Joan of Arc, is buried. Elegant, luminous and rich in both architecture and memory, Saint-Pierre de Lisieux is a serene and moving monument at the heart of the Pays d'Auge.
