About Cathedral Sainte-Réparate de Nice

In the heart of Vieux-Nice, tucked among the ochre facades and narrow lanes of the old town, the Cathédrale Sainte-Réparate is a jewel of Baroque architecture, built between 1650 and 1699 and dedicated to the young martyr who is the patron saint of Nice. Its handsome facade and, above all, its dome covered in glazed tiles glowing in the Mediterranean sun make it a landmark of the old town's skyline. Inside, the exuberant Baroque decoration — marble, stucco, gilding and painted ceilings — creates a sumptuous, richly Italianate atmosphere reflecting the city's long ties to Savoy and Genoa. Opening onto a lively square amid the markets and cafés of old Nice, Sainte-Réparate is both a working cathedral and a glowing masterpiece of southern Baroque, at the very heart of the city.
