About Lyon History Museum - Gadagne Museums
In the heart of Vieux-Lyon, in one of the finest Renaissance mansions in the city, the Gadagne museums bring together two institutions under one magnificent roof: the Museum of the History of Lyon and the Museum of Puppetry Arts. The former traces the two-thousand-year story of Lyon, from its Roman origins as Lugdunum through its golden age of silk and printing to the present day, through maps, models, paintings and objects. The latter celebrates Guignol, the mischievous puppet born in Lyon, and the wider art of puppetry around the world. Set in a superb 16th-century townhouse with a beautiful courtyard and hanging gardens, the Gadagne museums combine architecture, history and folk art. Rich, varied and beautifully housed, they are an essential stop for understanding the identity and culture of Lyon, a UNESCO World Heritage city.
