About Antiquaille - Cultural Center of Christianity
On the Fourvière hillside overlooking Lyon, the Antiquaille Cultural Centre of Christianity occupies a historic site of great significance, believed to stand where early Christians of Roman Lugdunum, including the martyrs Blandine and Pothin, suffered persecution in the 2nd century. Housed in the buildings of a former convent and hospital, the centre uses immersive multimedia, reconstructions and archaeology to tell the story of the origins of Christianity in Lyon and the wider Roman world, from the first communities and their martyrs to the spread of the faith. Ancient crypts and vestiges add to its atmosphere. Educational, atmospheric and historically rich, the Antiquaille offers a thoughtful journey into the deep religious history of Lyon and the early Church, a fascinating and unusual cultural stop close to the Roman theatres and the basilica of Fourvière.
