About Modern Art Museum
The Musée d'Art Moderne de Troyes occupies the former episcopal palace, a 16th- and 17th-century building in the heart of the city, restored and inaugurated as a museum in 1982. Its collection of more than 2,000 works, mostly given to the French state in 1976 by industrialist Pierre Lévy and his wife Denise, spans French painting from 1850 to 1950, with a strong emphasis on Fauvism through artists such as André Derain, Georges Braque, Maurice de Vlaminck and Kees van Dongen, alongside works by Modigliani, Soutine and other major names of the period.
