About Saint-Raymond Museum

In the heart of Toulouse, beside the great basilica of Saint-Sernin, the Musée Saint-Raymond is the city's archaeology museum, devoted to antiquity and housed in a fine building that was once a college for poor students on the pilgrim road to Compostela. Its collections are especially renowned for their outstanding Roman sculpture — busts of emperors, gods and portraits, and remarkable statues and mosaics unearthed from the great Roman villa of Chiragan nearby, forming one of the finest collections of imperial Roman sculpture in France. Further galleries present the Celtic and Gallo-Roman past of the region and its everyday life. Elegant, fascinating and beautifully housed, the Musée Saint-Raymond offers a superb journey into the ancient world and the Roman heritage of Toulouse, an essential cultural stop for lovers of antiquity in the pink city of the Garonne.
