On the heights above Colleville-Montgomery, near the D-Day landing beaches of Normandy, the Hillman site is a remarkable complex of German fortifications that played a significant role on 6 June 1944. This vast network of concrete bunkers and command posts, dug deep into the ridge overlooking Sword Beach, was a formidable strongpoint that British forces had to overcome in the hours after the landings.
