About The archaeological Museum of Nice

On the hill of Cimiez above Nice, where the Romans built the city of Cemenelum, the Archaeological Museum of Nice-Cimiez lets visitors explore the ancient past of the Riviera. Set beside the impressive remains of a Roman amphitheatre and monumental baths, the museum displays finds unearthed from the ancient city and its region — statues, ceramics, coins, jewellery, glass and everyday objects — that bring to life the Roman and pre-Roman inhabitants of the area. A walk through the adjoining archaeological site, among the ruins of the baths and arena shaded by ancient olive trees, completes the visit. Set amid the gardens and monastery of Cimiez, close to the Matisse Museum, the Archaeological Museum offers a fascinating journey into the deep history of Nice and a peaceful cultural escape above the bustle of the Riviera.
