About The Museum of the Liberation
In Tourcoing, near Lille, the Museum of the Liberation occupies a remarkable historic site: an underground German command bunker from which, in 1944, part of the region was controlled, and which later became briefly a headquarters linked to General de Gaulle. Deep beneath the ground, the preserved rooms and galleries of the bunker have been arranged to tell the story of the Second World War in the North, the German occupation, the Resistance and the Liberation of the region. Documents, objects, photographs and reconstructed scenes bring this dramatic period vividly and soberly to life in an authentic and atmospheric setting.
