About The Valence Museum Art and Archeology

Overlooking the Rhône in Valence, the Museum of Art and Archaeology is one of the finest regional museums in the area, housed in a former bishops' palace with sweeping views over the river and hills. Its collections span archaeology, from prehistoric and Gallo-Roman finds of the region, to fine and decorative arts across the centuries. Its greatest treasure is an exceptional collection of drawings by the 18th-century artist Hubert Robert, the celebrated painter of romantic ruins, one of the most important such holdings in France. Recently renovated, the museum combines beautiful architecture, panoramic terraces and rich, varied collections. Elegant, comprehensive and superbly sited above the Rhône, the Museum of Art and Archaeology of Valence offers a rewarding journey through the region's history and the art of drawing, a cultural highlight in the heart of the Drôme.
