About Tumulus de Bougon
The Tumulus de Bougon is a prehistoric site located in the village of Bougon, near the town of Poitiers in western France. It consists of a group of five burial mounds or tumuli, which were constructed during the Neolithic period, between around 4800 and 2200 BCE. The largest of these mounds measures around 60 meters in diameter and 6 meters in height, and contains several chambers and passageways. Excavations of the tumuli have revealed a range of artifacts, including pottery, flint tools, and human remains, which suggest that they were used for the burial of important individuals and their families. Today, the site is open to visitors, and features a museum with displays on the archaeology and history of the area.
