About Baie de Douarnenez

Cradled by the peninsulas of western Finistère, the Baie de Douarnenez is a wide, luminous bay wrapped in Breton legend — for beneath its waters, the tale says, lies the drowned city of Ys, swallowed by the sea for its sins. Around its curve lie sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs, the wild Cap de la Chèvre on the Crozon peninsula and the old sardine port of Douarnenez, whose canning history is celebrated in a fine maritime museum. Sheltered yet open to Atlantic light, the bay is loved for sailing, sea-kayaking, coastal walking and beach days. Framed by two of Brittany's most beautiful headlands and steeped in myth and maritime tradition, the Baie de Douarnenez is a quintessential slice of the wild Finistère coast.
