About Canyons d’holzarté et d’Olhadubi
In the wild Basque mountains near Larrau, the gorges of Holzarté and Olhadübi are among the most spectacular canyons in the Pyrenees, deep forested chasms where mountain torrents have carved dizzying clefts into the rock. Their emblem is the famous Holzarté suspension bridge, a slender footbridge strung high across the void of the Olhadübi gorge, swaying some 150 metres above the torrent — a thrilling crossing that rewards walkers with a breathtaking plunge of a view into the abyss. A fine forest trail climbs from the valley to the bridge and on into the high beech woods and pastures of the Basque uplands. Vertiginous, verdant and gloriously wild, the canyons of Holzarté and Olhadübi are one of the great mountain hikes of the Pays Basque and a highlight of the western Pyrenees.
