About Cascade de la Baume
In the volcanic uplands of the Velay near Le Puy-en-Velay, the Cascade de la Beaume is one of the finest waterfalls in the Haute-Loire, where the river Gazeille plunges some twenty-five metres in a broad, powerful sheet over a curving wall of dark basalt. Set amid the wild, green volcanic country south of Le Puy, framed by columns of ancient lava and lush vegetation, the falls form a majestic curtain of white water especially thunderous after rain or snowmelt. A short path from the village of Solignac-sur-Loire leads to viewpoints facing the cascade across its rocky basin. Broad, powerful and beautifully set against the black volcanic rock of the Velay, the Cascade de la Beaume is a magnificent natural spectacle in one of the most distinctive landscapes of central France.
