About Cascade de la Billaude
Hidden in the forests of the Jura near Champagnole, the Cascade de la Billaude — also known as the Saut Claude Roy — is one of the most beautiful waterfalls of the region, where the river Lemme plunges in two powerful leaps some thirty metres down a wooded rocky staircase. Reached by a steep footpath and stairways descending through cool, mossy woodland, the falls thunder into a rocky basin amid dense greenery, throwing up refreshing spray. The setting, deep in the Jura forest, is wonderfully wild and shaded, especially spectacular in spring when the river runs high with snowmelt. A rewarding short walk leads to viewpoints above and below the cascade. Powerful, verdant and beautifully secluded, the Cascade de la Billaude is a lovely natural gem of the Jura plateau.
