About Cascade de la Vis

On the river Vis at Saint-Laurent-le-Minier, on the borders of the Gard and Hérault, the Cascade de la Vis spills in a broad, low curtain into pools of vivid emerald and turquoise. The remarkably clear, mineral-rich water — the river famously resurges nearby after running underground — has made this one of the most popular natural swimming and picnic spots in the region, framed by garrigue-covered hills and a handsome old mill. Just upstream lies the extraordinary Cirque de Navacelles, a vast meander abandoned by the river and one of France's Grand Sites. Cool and refreshing in the summer heat of the Cévennes foothills, the Cascade de la Vis is a beloved swimming hole with a spectacular geological neighbourhood.
