About Cascade du Nideck

Deep in a forested gorge of the northern Vosges near Oberhaslach, the Cascade du Nideck tumbles some 25 metres over a shelf of volcanic rock beneath the romantic ruins of Nideck castle. A shaded woodland path climbs from the valley to a belvedere overlooking the falls and on to the medieval keep perched on its crag, making a classic half-day walk through beech and fir. The site has long inspired legend, celebrated in a famous Alsatian poem about giants who once lived in the castle above. Cool, green and often busy on summer weekends, the Nideck combines waterfall, castle ruin and forest in one of the most atmospheric corners of the Alsatian mountains.
