About Cascade du Rouget
High in the mountains above Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval in the Haute-Savoie, the Cascade du Rouget is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Alps, so magnificent it has been nicknamed the "Queen of the Alps". Fed by glacial meltwater from the peaks above, the torrent leaps some ninety metres down a sheer rock face in two great tiers, exploding into clouds of spray and rainbows on sunny days. Set in the wild, protected landscape of the Sixt-Passy nature reserve, amid alpine meadows and towering summits, it is easily admired from the road and viewpoints at its foot. Thunderous in early summer when the snows melt, framed by some of the grandest mountain scenery in France, the Cascade du Rouget is a jewel of the high Giffre valley.
